Lookbook: Layering With White Shirt & Floral Sweatshirt

Full disclosure: I wore this outfit under a black wool coat last week (when weather was still warm enough to take an outdoor picture!) This week is it is teeth clattering cold and I couldn't have worn any shoes sans socks outside, even for a quick click!

Coming back to this look, I love a crisp, button front shirt - it is a must have, staple piece in any wardrobe (Hey, Tim Gunn agrees!) I got this Endless Shirt from JCrew (select styles are now 40% off with code SALENEWS) I am wearing size 4, Tall and I couldn't be happier about it! It is so versatile and the longer back makes it easy to dress down with a pair of leggings and tall boots! I am planning to pair it with the faux leather jeans for a night out!

This floral sweatshirt is also one of my long lasting purchase that I can wear all year around (last worn here). I am a big fan of black and white brush strokes floral print so this will go well with some of my existing pieces. This one is sold out but they have another floral pop art sweatshirt (on sale and extra 40% off now) that I like to layer with shirts.

Another staple in my wardrobe (which you may have seen many times on the blog too)  - these Nine West Flax pumps in mint green. They have 3.5 inch heel that makes them perfect for longer wear (4 is usually my limit when it comes to wearing heel for more than an hour!) and they look very sleek and polished with anything. If you want to have a mint pumps for Spring/Summer - go for it, they are back in stock!!

Who Is Excited For #LillyForTarget?

Target has a history of successful designer collaboration (remember the Twitter-shopping frenzy at the launch of Phillip Lim x Target??) For its newest collaboration, Target made the surprise announcement to the New York's fashion editors at a lavish party at Four Seasons and since then Twitter and Instagram is on fire with #LillyForTarget hashtag! (seriously, fashionistas are breathing in their neon paisley printed paper bags!) The limited time capsule collection includes 250 pieces of apparel, accessories, beauty, and home decor item that range from $2 to $150 (with nearly 200 items under $30). Also, for the first time, this collaboration will include plus sizes, which was one of the major complaints from customers who thought Target excluded plus size women from accessing the high end designer collaborations. The preview of Lilly Pulitzer For Target collaboration promises very colorful, signature Lilly Pulitzer print heavy pieces that are sure to sell out, given the cult-like following of the brand.

For those who are (by some miracle) oblivious to Lilly Pulitzer - she was a New York socialite and fashion designer who took the 50s and 60s by storm with her signature shift dresses featuring bright, colorful, floral prints. As the brand is popular with high society, she was called the "Queen of Prep". Story goes that Lilly had an orange juice stand in Florida, selling juice from her husband's orange groves and her dresses used to get stained with them. So to camouflage the stains, Lilly started designing her own dresses with splashes of bold color and eye popping prints. Her customer loved her prints and soon her namesake became a popular brand for preppy, colorful dresses worn by elites such as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Caroline Kennedy, and members of the Rockefeller, Vanderbilt and Whitney families.

Now with this collaboration, Target is making the iconic style available to many many more fans of Lilly Pulitzer brand. The collection will be available online and in store on April 19 and my prediction is that there are fans nationwide already clearing out space for their 'suddenly extended' Spring/Summer wardrobe! Lookbook : Red Military Coat, Plaid Blanket Scarf

And we had the snow in New York! Not the kind that piles on, but still a bleak reminder that suede boots and light coats are going to get their hours cut! LOL! For the chilly weather, the oversized blanket scarf is my go-to piece. It doesn't have to be all wool. Really, even an all acrylic scarf will keep you warm and toasty just because there is so much of it! With my red military coat, this OASAP scarf goes nicely. BTW, I have used OASAP clothing which was a total disaster for me - the quality was awful and the workmanship was very shoddy, but their scarves are really good value for the money. This one looks and feels exactly like Zara (I have a similar plaid Zara scarf too). I guess all these Chinese companies sell either the brand name surplus (like the overstock or sample pieces for Zara/H&M etc - which might be similar quality to these stores) or they create garments from copying the samples (those are really junk!) So as per my opinion, these scarves are a good buy, but I would not recommend their clothing.

Lookbook: Plaid and Houndstooth

Black and white never gets boring. Although I love wearing color, there is an elegant statement in a black and white outfit that always work for any season/body type/occasion. Today I am wearing my favorite Zara dress with my current favorite OTK boots by Stuart Weitzman. Be warned, I am going to wear them a LOT this year:-)

If you are on the fence about buying Stuart Weitzman Highland or Lowland, go ahead and take the plunge! Seriously, they are worth every penny. Soft and sleek and they go with literally everything! They are truly the investment piece that you will use a lot. I got mine from Saks. Happy New Year - Welcome 2015!

I got this skirt made with taffeta silk fabric in India. I love that I could get it made for my height and in the choice of my fabric and color! I found out some great tailors in New York City too that do custom pattern making and sewing and I am looking forward to try them to make custom dresses/skirts etc. FYI, you can find custom tailoring places in any city these days, usually the dry-cleaning places are best resources to find out!

Totally in love with this book clutch from Kate Spade. It is big enough to hold the essentials for a date/night out/dinner (credit cards, id and slim compact and lipgloss etc) and looks so gorgeous and unique! 'Age of Innocence' is one of my favorite novels (and movie too) so I am really happy I can carry it as an accessory!
