Spring 2014 Hair Trends & TRESemmé 7 Day Keratin Smooth Collection Review

Style inspiration : Rebecca Minkoff Spring 2014, Hair by TRESemmé
Since moving to New York two years ago, I have been enjoying a lot of things New York City has to offer. One of the most exciting among them (for me) is the New York Fashion Week. As a blogger and as a fashion lover, the NYFW is my inspiration board! I love the energy, the pageantry, the fashion and the opportunity to have a glimpse of fashion trends in advance, so I can re-imagine them for my wardrobe and translate them from runway to real-way!
Some moments from NYFW Fall14
Fashion Week is an amazing resource not only for the clothes, but also for hair and beauty. During NYFW Spring 2014, I had seen a lot of cool, laid back updos, messy buns and loose waves. One of the Spring 2014 hair looks that stayed with me was from Rebecca Minkoff show where TRESemmé stylist had created a braided style. For my face front braids never really worked, so I tweaked the style a little to have a braid-like effect without actually braiding, and made a low side bun for a sophisticated yet easy going hair style. It works great for formal occasion where you need to fancy up a bit (think weddings, charity galas, even Holiday balls). See my video tutorial below.

During New York Fashion Week in February 2014, I had a chance to try out TRESemmé 7 Day Keratin Smooth collection (Keratin Smooth 7 Day Smooth Shampoo -Keratin Smooth 7 Day Smooth Conditioner -Keratin Smooth 7 Day Smooth Heat Activated Treatment) and I am glad that I did! The hectic schedule during Fashion Week leaves little to no time for washing/styling my long hair. TRESemmé 7 Day Keratin Smooth collection made it possible for me to go frizz free for a week!
TRESemmé Keratin Smooth 7 day treatment
How the collection works -
Wash the hair with Keratin Smooth 7 Day Smooth Shampoo and conditioner. Towel dry hair, thoroughly put Keratin Smooth 7 Day Smooth Heat Activated Treatment in damp hair (Sectioning them off and use the treatment from root to tip works best) and simply blow dry. Now the hair is ready to be styled (leave as is too if you like, but I have super frizzy hair so I like to flat iron them). After using my trusty flat iron, I was so happy with the results! The hair was silkier, smoother and shinier! Great part - I just curled the ends couple days later and on 4th day, I tried this side bun, my hair was beyond fabulous to work them into an updo! Usually I start getting frizz or oily hair at the crown after 2-3 days, but with TRESemmé Keratin Smooth 7 Day system, I didn't need to worry about anything!! Fashion Week was conquered!!
Speaking of which, for Spring this year, the trend is easy going femininity! Whether it is big hair or sleek, loose waves or messy buns, laid back and simple styles are in.

That's A Wrap!

Spring Outfit Ideas, How To Wear A Ruana, How To Wear A Poncho Cape Wrap
One of most versatile piece of outwear for me is a  ruana. I didn't even know for a long time that this is what it is called!! It is like a wrap but structured in a way that it can be draped or belted like a poncho/cape/cardigan. So chic for fall and early Spring when you don't need a jacket but still need warmth. I got mine from Coldwater Creek, they have amazing ruanas every year. (Here are three other ways to wear a ruana!) This one is so cozy and the red, white and grey stripes give it a very mod look. Today I cinched it at the wait with this amazing obi belt (you really need this in your wardrobe, it is such a useful little piece to give a new look to any outfit!)

Sarah Jessica Parker For Nordstrom Review & Launch Event

Sarah Jessica Parker For Nordstrom, SJP for Nordstrom, SJP Shoe Line
I am not big on bucket list and 101 things to do before die stuff, but if I did, meeting Sarah Jessica Parker would have been pretty high on that list! (I mean let's be honest, we all consider Carrie Bradshaw as our 'mental' BFF!) Meeting SJP proved that her cheerful personality, down to earth attitude and the ability to put everyone on ease is not just our imagination, it is the real her! I had a chance to meet and talk with Sarah Jessica Parker at the launch event of SJP for Nordstrom collection. I loved the beautiful (and so comfortable) collection of shoes, trench coats and clutches. SJP said she wanted her shoe line to be timeless  and not feel dated. She succeeds brilliantly in that aspect - these shoes have the classic appeal to them with feminine silhouettes and elegant looks. I tried a lot of them and I can vouch first hand - the shoes are really comfortable. (I am not surprised. After all, Carrie Bradshaw had once confidently proclaimed, "...men I may not know, but shoes, shoes I know!") The vibrant colors, fresh designs and high quality craftsmanship (they are made in Italy) makes these shoes a wardrobe investment piece. The shoes are priced around $300-$500 (a couple of sandals are around $245) and trench coats are priced $495. Here are some of my favorite shoes from the collection -
4 - SJP 'Ina' Pump (super comfortable and look even better in person)

This navy trench looks and fits like a dream! I tried it on in size 6 (and SJP herself fixed the collar and gushed that it looks so pretty on me! *surreal moment*) This is available on pre-order online, shipping on March 15th I think. You can check your local store too. The coat comes in two colors, navy and khaki. I liked the navy one more in person.
SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker for Nordstrom Review

In an exclusive interview in February issue of O magazine, Sarah Jessica Parker had said that she had a lot of opportunities in past to put her name on  a shoe line, but she didn't want to endorse something she herself couldn't wear or ask people to shell out top dollars on something mass produced in China. So she called a certain Mr George Malkemus (umm, the CEO of little shoe company, Manolo Blahnik) and he asked her to come to his office. Thus began their business partnership, resulting in this gorgeous collection.
And guess who I spied at the room - the man himself! I had a great time talking Mr Malkemus about his partnership with SJP, his involvement with Dress for Success charity, importance of looking your best, his passion for giving back to the community. He was so insightful and gracious. He also confirmed they are already working on the Fall collection for this line! Hooray!
