{Tutorial} How To Make A Rustic Chic Burlap Wreath For Christmas Decor

Can you hear the sleigh bell ringing yet? I am so excited for Christmas and all the festivities this season brings. As we were traveling on Thanksgiving, I have not yet put up my tree yet (usually we do it on Black Friday!), but I am getting the the groove of things. Hopefully this weekend, the tree will be up.

 Meanwhile, here is an easy DIY idea for a Christmas wreath that will look good on smaller place/doors, windows, even on mirrors on the entryway. It took me just half an hour to finish this project. I saw this cute polka dot print  urlap ribbon in Walmart recently and wanted to use it for my Christmas decor. I love this time of the year. This season inspires even the non-crafty girls like me to create something!

You can get these supplies in any craft store or the seasonal section of drugstores. For a 12" wreath, I used one roll of 5" x 3.4 yard spool of ribbon. For this super easy wreath, you just need to wrap the ribbon on an angle on the Styrofoam frame. I overlapped it to finish the spool. 

I secured the starting corner of the ribbon with a flower wire to make the wrapping easy and tight.

 When you reach the end, tuck the ribbon with some pins. Sewing/quilting even applique pins will work fine.

 The fun part of this wreath is that you can decorate it any way you like. You can use little pine cones, small plastic apples, cinnamon sticks, fur leaves and holly. I glued the silk poinsettia flowers using heavy duty craft glue, but I think hot glue would have been even better. But because the base is foam, I just used floral wire and sewing pins with the glue to secure my arrangement. The wire is not visible on the front - so no worries!

All done!! BTW, I am thinking this wreath will make a great center piece too. Put it on a glass cake platter, decorate all around the rim with fur leaves, fake snow sprinkled cones, cinnamon sticks and some sparkly ornaments. Put a pillar candle in the middle and voila! (*Not to self- start working on the burlap center pieces!)

Trends To Try: Winter Pastels

 Don't let the pearly pinks, minty greens and pretty lilacs hide away in your closet just because winter is here. The chilly season may demand the cozy sweaters and thick jackets but we can still wear delicate pastels for winters. During Thanksgiving weekend I was in Virginia and even though it was rainy and the temperature was in 40s, I managed to lighten up the mood with pearl encrusted pink sweater. The pistachio green embroidered wool scarf (that I stole borrowed from my BFF's closet) makes me feel as if Spring is already here!!
