Reporting from NYFW - Mara Hoffman Spring/Summer 2013

Another day, another awesome show at New York Fashion Week. I am having so much fun with all the buzz and amazing shows. You can read my Fashion week articles on Examiner.com and see all the pictures from the shows I have attended. Meanwhile here are some pictures form Mara Hoffman Spring 2013 show at NYFW. It started with the serenading strains of ukuleles, perfectly apt for the Hawaiian inspired collection. The rich colors, island prints, flowing silk and chiffon dresses took us for a luxurious beach vacation right in the middle of New York City!  The whole collection has a relaxed luxe vibe and all the pieces are so very wearable.

And don't forget to participate in my Shop Gentry Giveaway! You can win a gorgeous piece of jewelry!! Enter now!!

Snapshots From Lucky FABB In New York City

Fastest 10 hours in a day - that's how Lucky FABB was for me! There was so much fun, networking opportunities, inspiring panel discussions and break out sessions on how to make your blog desirable for big brads, to how to hone your blog voice. Not to mentioned the humongous goodie bag by Lucky FABB sponsors - seriously, my arm still hurts after carrying it a block to the cab! Tired as much as I am, I couldn't wait to share some of the images and snapshots of the wonderful day! BTW I was on time (actually early) and was rewarded with a great front row view of the panel discussions and interviews!!
Attendee line stretching the block at the start of the day and fabulous shoes on Lucky Editor -in-Chief, Brandon Holley

Brandon Holley with President and CEO of Macy's Terry Lundgren, talking about how to make it on your own terms
One of the highlights of the day - tête-à-tête with Rachel Zoe! she talked about her success, motherhood and how to juggle it all!

Rachel Zoe wearing an amazing (looks even better in person) rope and tassel necklace from her collection
One of the most heart warming discussion of the day - Lauren Bush Lauren, Model, Designer, Co founder -FEED
Ever witty Aliza Licht from DKNY with her useful insights on branding and social media

Erica Domesek of PS. I Made This
Jean Godfrey-June of Lucky talking to Lauren Conrad

Lauren looks even prettier in real life!
Hands down, the most entertaining, funny and inspiring conversation of the day - Simon Doonan, Brand ambassador, Barneys interviewing iconic American designer Ann Sui

Ann Sui was all charming and nostalgic and so honest (she told us sock-bun was her least favorite street style trend!)

It was my first time attending Lucky FABB and I highly recommend it!

Building The New York Fashion Week Outfits

When I started my blog in 2011, the first person to know about it (along with my husband) was my best friend. We have known each other for 23 years now and she has been the constant source of joy and laughter in my life ever since! I called her after publishing my first ever post and jokingly said, "Next year I am going to be in New York Fashion Week covering the event by invitation." Little did I know that my joke will actually come true!! I am excited to attend the NYFW as the member of the press and have invitations for the shows from some of the iconic designers I have been admiring for a long time. (including Badgley Mischka, Tadashi Shoji, Monique Lhuillier, Carlos Miele, Lela Rose, Rebecca Minkoff, Jenny Packham, Nanette Lepore)
As soon as the first invitation came in, the planning for the NYFW outfit began. I want stylish, fashionable outfits that reflect my style, are comfortable and look professional at the same time. My plan is to build outfits with these foundation pieces - some I had in the closet, some I bought recently. I am gonna try mixing some basic shirts and tops and some dresses in there and hopefully whittle out 7 outfits for the exciting week ahead! As it is my first Fashion Week, I pored through magazines and websites for outfit inspiration (that suits my conservative style, age and occupation!) and what I surmise from my research  is this -
Based on the above, here is a preview of the items I am going to use (and reuse) for the Fashion Week! Head gear is optional for me! Outfit pictures coming soon!

So stay tuned for my NYFV coverage both here and on Examiner.com, the online publication I'll be representing at the coveted Lincoln Center runways!

Recap: Look Good Feel Better Beauty Editors Day Event at Saks Fifth Avenue

If you are my twitter buddy, you must have known about my participation in the national Beauty Editors Day event at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York. The details of which you can read in my article on examiner.com. But in case you missed it, here are some more photos and details of the great event. Look Good Feel Better, the organization helping cancer patients with beauty and hair advice to adjust with the appearance related changes caused by treatments, brought the first ever Beauty Editors Day to US.  LGFB partnered with 32 leading magazines' beauty editors and top brands for a fundraiser and awareness campaign for the organization.

The event gave customers an opportunity to have a one on one 20 minutes consultation with a beauty editor at a leading beauty brand's counter at Saks Fifth Avenue. The editors discussed the fall trends for beauty and makeup and previewed the latest products while the beauty experts gave participants a mini-makeover. The ticket for the event and consultation was $30 benefiting the LGFB program.

The Look Good Feel Better program offers free workshops and support to people with cancer to provide lessons on cosmetics, skin and nail care, wigs, turbans, accessories and wardrobe styling to help mitigate the appearance-related side effects of their treatment. Since the program began 23 years ago, it has served more than 800,000 people with cancer in the U.S. and more than 1.2 million people with cancer around the world.
Look out for LGFB Beauty Editors Day next year and make sure to attend and be a part of this wonderful cause.

And now the exciting announcement! The winner of the limited edition Oscar de la Renta scarf is Allison of A's Fashion Files!! Congrats Allison - people from LGFB will be in touch with you shortly!
