10 Style Lessons To Learn From Your Girlfriends

Helen Keller once wrote "I would rather walk with a friend in the dark, than alone in the light." And many studies have confirmed what we already know and believe - women who have at least one or more close girlfriend live a healthier and happier life! I have been lucky to have some of the really coolest, funniest, stylish-est friends! They are my pick-me-up, tell-me-what-to-do, make-me -believe-in-myself people. Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive. And they do arrive with nuggets of wisdom! Here are 10 style lessons I Learned (among the countless other life lessons) I learned from the girlfriends -

1. Inner beauty is your true gift, but don't ignore the wrapping paper!
They love you even when you look like a mess! But they also tell that your LBD makes you look like a star! They mean well when they ask you to 'dress up for the party'! And it is a fact - nobody ever "not benefited" from looking good. Lesson learned - put some effort when you dress up!

2. Window shopping is retail therapy light.
They teach you the importance of 'just looking, not buying'! Who needs a credit card when you got a friend to play "love it, love it, hate it" game? Lesson learned - you don't need to buy a pair of Jimmy Choo shoes to to appreciate it!

3. If the shoe fits, buy it in every color
At the same time, they tell you when to buy! Leson learned - if  you like love something, go buy it otherwise you will regret when it is off the shelf!

4. Expensive handbag is an investment
My best friend asked me to forgo the purchase of three meh bags and instead invest in one good one I will cherish and use for a long time. Lesson learned - build a wardrobe with the pieces you will use and reuse and use it again!

5. If you are a princess, your hair is your crown. Make it shine!
They share the best new hair conditioner/oil treatments/hot tip they read on a blog with you! Lesson learned - unkempt/split-ended hair ruin the whole outfit! Take care of your mane!

6. You are what you eat
They ask the dressing on the side and give you the look when you gobble down that 3rd twinkie while watching Golden Globes red carpet! Lesson learned - Enjoy every food, but remember gluttony is a sin.

7. Suck in the tummy when taking the photos!
Before pressing the click button, they say "wait a second, you have your bra strap sticking out!" Lesson learned - Pictures are FOREVER and surface on the internet when you least expect them! (Specially when they are not from your own camera!)

8. Dress up for yourself
They help you pick up an outfit but they also tell you to wear what you love! Lesson learned -Impress yourself first before you impress the world!

9. You can read it even if you don't subscribe
The girlfriends lend us their newest Vogue, when you don't subscribe it. Lesson learned - share the love for fashion magazines and copy the styles if you love them!

10. Don't EVER lie to your girlfriends - if this dress is making your butt look bigger, I am gonna say it!
Lesson Learned - As your friend, I have earned the right to say it for what it is! And thats why you love me!

Celebrate your girlfriends! They will never let you down!

Star Style (Blush Gowns) For Less - Golden Globes Edition!

I feel no shame in saying that I watch award ceremonies not only for the celebration of movie making, but also for the red carpet fashion! The sashaying beauties inspire, influence and become the style muse for all fashion enthusiasts. We ooh and aah over the gorgeous gowns and envy-inducing jewels. For that one hour we also become the style-editors - judging the looks of glamorous stars - we 'love it', 'hate it', 'what was she thinking! -it' , 'ooh, I want it', 'I wish I could have it'! And I am sure I am not the only one feeling this way! The 'award-ceremony-viewing-party-with-girlfriends' club everywhere does this too!  So if you are one of 'us', you must have loved a dress on the red carpet enough to recreate it! From this year's Golden Globes, I loved the Blush Color trend, which will be huge in spring/summer. So here it is - Golden Globes 2012 trend for less!

Golden Globes 2012 Dresses - Best, Worst and In Between!

Angelina Jolie (Best Dressed)-  I love that this gown is simple and edgy at the same time. With so many stars in blush gowns, Angie stood on her own in this Atelier Versace gown with the flash of red at the neckline.

Evan Rachel Wood - This shimmery Gucci gown does justice to the the golden beauty of Evan Rachel wood. The sequin and feathers come together as never before on red carpet!

Tilda Swinton (Best Dressed) - I have to say I have never been really impressed with Tilda Swinton on red carpet. But at Golden Globes she did a 360 stylewise! And her gown by Haider Ackermann, in my opinion, was the most memorable one this evening!

Claire Danes (Best Dressed) - The back of this gown was even better than the front! Claire Danes looks svelte in J Mendel gown.

Diane Lane (Best Dressed) - Diane Lane looks every inch the hollywood star that she is in this flapper inspired golden gown by Reem Acra.

Emma Stone (best Dressed) - Emma stone is looking gorgeous in this burgundy Lanvin gown. In my opinion she is doing on red carpet what Mila Kunis did last year! Simple silhouette of this gown gets edgy treatment with the jeweled belt and mixed hues!

Sofia Vergara (Best Dressed) - The blue gown by Vera Wang is signature Vergara style - Cinched waist, fishtail, and pleated bodice! Her hour glass figure helped too!

Maya Rudolph (Worst Dressed) - This Embossed black gown looks really ugly!

Amy Poehler (Worst Dressed) - This Naeem Khan gown would look much better as a mini or knee length dress. Don't like it as a gown.

Golden Globes 2012 - Red Carpet Blues

Sofia Vergara, Freida Pinto, Tilda Swinton, Helen Mirren, Michelle Williams and Sarah Michelle Gellar take the red carpet @ 2012 Golden Globes in vibrant blues! Vergara's fishtail gown and hourglass figure and Freida Pinto's simplicity is one of my favorites! Tilda Swinton is actually looking the best she has ever looked on red carpets! Glad to see some color in her outfit - she is making the tux/gown combo work! Helen Mirren is the Queen, so she can do no wrong!!:-) Sarah Michelle Gellar's tie-dye-ish gown didn't work for me. Michelle Williams is working a non-red carpet gown as only she can! Loved the pixie hair!

Marc Jacobs For Louis Vuitton Spring 2012 - Pretty, Feminine, Alluring

What a difference a year makes. Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton Spring 2012 collection is as different from the Spring 2011 collection as night and day. Last season was all about bold colors and even bolder prints, but this year Jacobs returns with softest hues and delicate prints and patterns. The collection has the look and feel of the china dolls of a vintage music box. The eyelet dresses and skirts have motifs of pretty daisies, silhouettes of a children's story book
and pastel shades of delicious, frothy confections. Even the biker jacket is made to look fragile. I think with this collection Marc Jacobs underscored the fact that feminine dressing will be the trend in 2012.
