Who writes this blog?

That would be me — Jyoti. And if you're reading this for the first time, welcome. If you've been here since the early days, welcome back. Things look a little different now, and I'll explain why. But first, the story — because it matters.

I grew up in the colorful, chaotic, deeply beautiful world of India, where I worked as a news reporter for a national TV network. That career gave me a lot of things: a sharp eye, a calm head in messy situations, and an absolute love of storytelling. Then life did what life does — I fell in love, moved to the United States, had a baby, and found myself navigating an entirely new world, including an entirely new way of getting dressed.

That last part sounds small. It wasn't.

Coming from India, where ethnic fashion deeply evolved and culturally rich, learning to dress in America was genuinely its own education. I didn't grow up watching my mother or grandmother reach for blazers and ballet flats. Terms like "cocktail attire" or "smart casual" weren't part of my vocabulary. Even something as simple as "dressy shoes" meant something completely different where I came from. So, I did what any curious, slightly obsessed woman would do — I learned. I paid attention. I figured it out, piece by piece, and somewhere in that process I fell in love with style all over again, this time in a new language.

On March 13, 2011, I started documenting it. That was the beginning — a fashion blog for modern Indian-American women who wanted polished, practical, real-life style inspiration. How to dress like yourself in a culture that wasn't quite yours yet. How to mix high and low, translate trends into real life, and look put-together on an everyday budget. It was a genuinely joyful decade of outfits, finds, and building a community of women who understood exactly what it meant to dress between two worlds.

So, what changed?

Honestly? I did.

Somewhere in the years of blogging and posting and linking, I noticed I had become something I hadn't intended to be — another shopping account in a sea of shopping accounts, pushing consumption more than I was celebrating style. The joy that started all of this was getting buried under the performance of it.

At the same time, life at 48 looks very different from life at 35. I'm not just navigating a new culture anymore — I'm navigating the deeper, quieter questions. How do you keep choosing joy when life feels ordinary? How do you take care of yourself beautifully, with intention, even when no one is watching? How do you build a life that feels entirely, unapologetically yours?

Those are the questions I want to write about now. And that's how this space became Dressing Up With Joy.

What is this blog about now?

Style is still here — it will always be here. I still love fashion, beautiful clothes, a well-chosen outfit, and a great find at the right price. But this space has grown into something bigger.

Dressing Up With Joy is about the whole life of a woman who chooses beauty deliberately — in her wardrobe, her home, her kitchen, her daily rituals, and her inner world. It's about dressing up even when you have nowhere to go. Cooking a beautiful meal even when you're eating alone. Putting fresh flowers in a vase on a Tuesday just because. Walking in the morning and thinking real thoughts. Reading books that restore you. Finding gratitude on hard days and elegance in ordinary ones.

It's for the woman — perhaps in her 40s or 50s, perhaps an immigrant, perhaps quietly building a beautiful life that not everyone around her fully understands — who is tired of aspirational content and just wants to feel seen.

I'm not selling perfection. I'm offering company.

My style in a few words

Ladylike, feminine, and considered. Timeless over trendy. I've always loved the grace of Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly, the ease of Jennifer Aniston, the quiet confidence of a woman who dresses for herself and no one else. That hasn't changed.
